Brook Green

Delighted to share this fabulous colourful family home in West London, in the current issue of 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine (March 2023).

I was invited to write about this incredible project by interior designer Sean Symington.

He is Canadian in origin but made his home in Bath, in the UK, but his growing reputation as a designer is taking him all over the country. I have become a huge fan of Sean's work and have written about a number of his projects by now.

He enjoys using a bold palette and is an expert at injecting tremendous character into a property, using vibrant colours, unexpected patterns and funky oversized furniture, which he cleverly teams, often with traditional period features.

Sean is not scared of combining graphic geometrics with beautiful botanicals and layering yellow, mauve, and emerald against a strong deep blue.

Unique, bespoke solutions such as this gorgeous banquette seating ensure that his clients homes are utterly individual. He takes them on a journey of self discovery and pushes their interior design boundaries to their limits, but so gently they often don't realise that this is happening!

Sean has created a stunning entrance to the house with graphic patterned, monochrome floor tiles, ‘Liason’ designed by Kelly Wearstler, from Ann Sacks London. A pair of burgundy velvet ottomans add a pop of colour.

The master bedroom provides a moment of calm in this busy family home. Soothing soft greens and tactile velvet fabrics have been combined with subtle floral prints to create a sanctuary with a welcoming organic feel. Curtains & Cushions have been made up in ‘Carnival’ by Christopher Farr. ‘Avebury’ Bedside Lamps from Vaughn are topped with ‘Green Figured’ lampshades from Fermoie. Bespoke Bedside Tables by Sean Symington, have been painted in ‘Setting Plaster’ Full Gloss by Farrow & Ball. The bespoke velvet bench is also by Sean, the legs are painted in ‘Setting Plaster’ Full Gloss by Farrow & Ball. Walls are painted in ‘French Gray’ Estate Emulsion, also by Farrow & Ball.

The ‘Oomph’ Side Table by Nina Campbell sits next to a Roche Bobois ‘Bubble Armchair’. Note the pretty lath and fascia curtain rail covered in fabric matching the curtains.

A great chill out room for the owners children, the bespoke joinery, designed by Sean, has been painted ‘Brinjal’ by Farrow & Ball. Wall Lights are by Pooky. The beautiful ‘Chintamani - Pomegranate’ wallpaper is by Ottoline. The ‘Mah Jong’ Sofa is by Roche Bobois - it makes such a cosy corner.

The daybed is another beautifully designed solution by Sean, with useful storage underneath, painted in ‘Cuisse de Nymphe Emue’ by Edward Bulmer Paints. The gorgeous Peonies Mural is £55.60 per metre by Beut. The delicate Carrick Leaf Wall Lights in ‘Plaster White’ are by Vaughan, the pink 'Wicker’ fabric shades and the pink 'Popple' bolsters and cushions are all fabrics by Fermoie.

Do follow Sean on Instagram for further inspiration - you will never again have reservations about clashing colours or mixing vintage with contemporary - his work is an education in originality.
