A gorgeous hallway

I am trying out a new routine with this blog: I am going to post features as they are published. So last week I showed off the gorgeous Georgian townhouse in the current Period Living magazine. Sounds obvious, I know, but for various reasons I am usually much more random than that I am afraid and I have got a bit of catching up with myself! The week before, I posted about a converted chapel in the previous months edition and this week, I want to show off a gorgeous hallway that Douglas shot for Your Home magazine.

It appeared two issues ago now, so, thank goodness for Readly a magazine subscription service that basically allows you to read this, as well as other interior design titles and explore many more publications, from the 6,300 on the platform too. A Swedish company originally, but growing fast, I rely on it hugely.

According to digital subscription service Readly, interior design magazines are amongst the most popular in the UK and sources of inspiration.

Among Readly’s top magazine categories, interest in its Home & Renovation and Interior Design & Architecture has grown by 30 percent over the last year and was Readly’s second most read category, following fitness.

Clare had been living in her beautiful Edinburgh apartment for a few years with her husband and their three children and she loves injecting colour and character into the modern, all white backdrop that she started with.

The stairs had a dull grey carpet originally, which she pulled away and sanded to a smooth finish. She painted the stair uprights a rainbow of candy coloured pastels and the treads she simply stained and varnished. Clare painted the wall either side up to the balustrade charcoal, to frame the array of bright colours. White walls upwards from the charcoal keep the space light and fresh, a gallery of framed prints leads your eye up the stairs.

On the landings Clare laid fun vinyl tiles.

I was reminded of Clare's scheme when I went to see the Alice in Wonderland exhibition at the V&A, the exhibition designers had clearly copied her colours when they were decorating the stairs!

Look out for Clare and I on Instagram, we will be running a giveaway this week and the prize will be a free Readly subscription.
